Julie & Jeff | Manchester Bath & Tennis Club Wedding

I loved Julie and Jeff’s wedding at the Manchester Bath & Tennis Club. It was simple yet bursting with personal touches throughout. They held their ceremony along the beach just outside of the tennis club, where they later had their cocktail hour and reception. The ceremony was incredibly intimate, as they called up both sets of parents and included them in the ceremony, acknowledging their love and support. As part of the cocktail hour they had the Dear Abbeys, Boston University’s fantastic a capella group, come serenade them and their guests. Since they played tennis back in college, we made sure to get some action shots of them with their former teammates! On the dinner tables they had wines with personalized labels as well as favors inside Chinese envelopes as an homage to the Julie’s mother’s side of the family. All of this, with the water right nearby and sunset at their fingertips, made for an incredible night!

2011 Weddings and Engagements

2011 has been a special year for many reasons, but one that makes it most memorable for me is that I went from shooting weddings part-time to being a full-time wedding photographer. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without all of the wonderful couples that I’ve had the chance to work with on their engagements and weddings. Thank you so much for your trust in my work and for opening up your lives to me. It’s been a year of sweet moments, immense love, all-out celebration, and many, many special photographs, so I wanted to take this time to look back on some of my favorites from the year. I have some sessions from the last couple of months that I still need to share, but those will have to wait until I return from my holiday travels in January. Until then, you’ll see a few sneak peeks below!

If these images are any indication, it’s going to be a fabulous 2012…

Amanda & Ajay | Wentworth by the Sea Country Club Wedding

Amanda and Ajay’s wedding was held at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club in Rye, New Hampshire. It was a beautiful September celebration, though from the images and the pops of pink color it really feels like spring or summer! What I loved most about their day was that they really put spending time with their guests and making sure everyone enjoyed themselves at the top of their priority list. They scheduled most of their portraits to be done before the ceremony so that they could spend quality time with loved ones during the cocktail hour. They also included some Indian dance instruction during the reception to incorporate Ajay’s culture into the day while making sure all of the guests could participate. Finally, they extended their night with an after-party at a local bar so that they could have even more time with their friends before the night was officially over. Such a fun time!

Vikki & Kyle | MIT Chapel & Boston Museum of Science Wedding

The first wedding I ever booked was held at the MIT Chapel a couple of years ago, so it was fun to finally revisit it for Vikki and Kyle‘s wedding over this Labor Day weekend. I love the chapel because the outside is unassuming, making the inside so unexpected and that much more awe-inducing. The way the light filters in from both the skylight above and the reflected sunlight through the moat along the bottom of the brick walls really gives the space a dream-like quality–perfect for a wedding ceremony. Vikki and Kyle’s intimate ceremony in the chapel was followed by a lively reception at the Museum of Science. They had so many fun details from the reception: the cake toppers represented the their Chinese zodiac signs (too cute!), the bridal party surprised them by creating some interactive games that got the whole room involved and howling from laughter, some talented friends gave swing dancing lessons to start the party, and the test tube centerpieces doubled as favors filled with sweet ingredients to bring home. Overall, it was a perfect evening!

Featured: Elm Bank Wedding on Style Me Pretty Massachusetts

I’m so excited that the Elm Bank wedding I recently photographed is featured on the Style Me Pretty Massachusetts blog today! It was so great to work with Wileen and Courtney on their wedding and see all of the sweet details in person, but this SMP recap is a fun reminder of all of the prettiness that day. Sonya & Victor | Boston wedding portraits

Sonya and Victor were married years ago but never had a formal ceremony or wedding photographs, so when they asked me to take some portraits of them dolled up in wedding attire I was more than happy to oblige! We started off at the Boston Public Library (the one place I am still dying to shoot a wedding at!) and then made our way over to the wharf. They were such a lovely couple to work with!

Maressa & Ben | Goethe-Institut Boston Wedding

Maressa and Ben were married the weekend that Hurricane Irene passed by Boston. Because of the impending rain, they decided to schedule a last minute portrait session the day before the wedding so that we could stroll through some of their neighborhood in the South End and get some nice photographs of them while the sun was still out. It worked out perfectly since I was able to document some of their rehearsal dinner at Mistral as well. It was a beautiful evening that transitioned into a beautiful wedding day. Both their ceremony and cocktail style reception took place at the Goethe-Institut Boston. The space was perfect for their event–elegant, ornate, and intimate–and Emilie of Pink Orchid Weddings was there to make sure everything ran smoothly. It was a truly lovely night, filled with mingling and laughter–one that left us all forgetting that it was pouring outside!

Donna & Philip | Colonnade Hotel wedding in Boston, MA

Donna and Philip’s intimate wedding at the Colonnade Hotel was filled to brim with DIY touches–from the ring designed by Philip, Donna’s earrings made by a friend, ceremony arbor built by hand and strung with hand-folded cranes, more cranes sprinkled throughout the cocktail and dinner tables, and all of the stationery designed by Donna herself. They chose to do their First Look where they first met–in the gardens at the Prudential Center–so much fun! For the reception, they incorporated some aspects of their Korean and Chinese backgrounds into a tea ceremony, for which Donna changed into a hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. The day was a burst of color and energy, and I had a great time capturing all of the wonderful details and moments for them!

Wileen & Courtney | Garden wedding at Elm Bank in Wellesley, MA

Wileen and Courtney were married at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Gardens at Elm Bank, possibly one of my new favorite wedding venues around Boston (and it’s also just a pretty place to visit in general!). With the many gardens and fun details of the grounds, we had a variety of backdrops throughout the day. Really, a photographer’s dream. I loved that Wileen and Courtney infused so many sweet details and DIY touches into their wedding, including the little warbler cake toppers that they sculpted by hand and the signs posted around the gardens leading to their ceremony (“getting closer,” “almost there,” and finally ”at last,” which was also their first dance song). Wileen and Courtney were all smiles all day, and the night wrapped up beautifully in their intimate yet lively dance tent.

Maria & Tony | Apple Orchard Wedding in Maine

Maria and Tony were married at Maria’s uncle’s apple orchard in Acton, Maine. I was surprised to learn that this was the first time anyone in her family had held their wedding there. What an amazing site for a ceremony! It was also incredibly touching to listen to Maria and Tony’s vows and see just how excited they were to be getting married to one another. I don’t believe there was a dry eye there, including my own. My favorite part was that they kept wanting to kiss each other before they were actually supposed to, so throughout the ceremony they would reach down to kiss the other’s hand. So sweet! Their reception followed in a tent in Maria’s parents’ backyard along the water.
