Sarah & Sean | Grounds for Sculpture engagement

Sarah and I went to high school together, so when we reconnected over Facebook and I found out that she wanted me to be her wedding photographer, I was so honored! We met up again a few months ago in one of her favorite places–Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. It’s a contemporary sculpture park with beautifully landscaped grounds. I couldn’t have thought of a more unique and fun location to catch up with her, get to know Sean, and make some lovely images of them together! I’m so glad Sarah introduced me to the park, and though it’s a ways away from Boston, I hope to visit there again soon.

I’ll be shooting Sarah and Sean’s wedding this August and can’t be more excited! Here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session…

Ketaki & Sam | Beacon Hill and Public Garden engagement

One of the first things I ask couples when I consult with them about shooting their wedding or during our engagement session is, “How did you meet?” When I asked Ketaki and Sam this question, I was expecting one of the usual stories–meeting through a mutual friend, at school, at work, through a dating website, etc.–and instead heard an answer that is less typical for this region of the world yet is personally very close to me since my parents were brought together the same way: arranged marriage. I think it’s common to misconstrue the concept and meaning behind it, so I’m excited to share their photographs which help show what I think it boils down to: two people being brought together who otherwise wouldn’t have met, who have incredible respect for and trust in their families and their culture, and who have another way of viewing marriage and how that relationship can develop. And, of course, two people who are so, so excited to be together. :)

Diah & Paulie | Marblehead Engagement

I’m about to head out of town for the holiday, but first here are a few images from Diah and Paulie’s engagement session in Marblehead, MA. Their relationship began and blossomed during visits to the Light Tower and Castle Rock, so it only made sense to stop at these locations to get some portraits that afternoon! We had a great time getting to know each other, navigating the rocks, and looking out over the water and the boats.

Sonya & Victor | Boston wedding portraits

Sonya and Victor were married years ago but never had a formal ceremony or wedding photographs, so when they asked me to take some portraits of them dolled up in wedding attire I was more than happy to oblige! We started off at the Boston Public Library (the one place I am still dying to shoot a wedding at!) and then made our way over to the wharf. They were such a lovely couple to work with!

Jenny & Keith | Beacon Hill and Esplanade engagement

Jenny and Keith’s engagement session was so much fun to photograph. I’ve shot around Beacon Hill and the Esplanade more times than I can count, and while they’re tried and true locations the best part about going back is finding ways to shoot them a little differently. I loved the variety of images we were able to get and enjoyed the challenge of working in all the different spaces and light. Jenny and Keith are so sweet and we laughed through most of this session. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next April!

Wileen & Courtney | Wellesley engagement

Wileen, Courtney, and I drove out to Wellesley, where Wileen went to school, for this engagement session. I always thought my college campus was pretty, but Wellesley has given me second thoughts. I imagine if I’d gone to Wellesley I’d take so many walks, explore in the woods, or lay out on the grass all the time–it is just so lush, and so, so pretty there, and I would never get any work done. :) We strolled along the lake (or was it a pond?) and found so many beautiful spaces in which to take photographs. I honestly wish we’d had more time there, and that the sun would hang just above the horizon forever for us.

Wileen and Courtney will be getting married this weekend in the gardens at Elm Bank, and I can’t be more excited for it! Until then, here are my favorites from their engagement shoot..

Donna & Philip | ICA & Christopher Columbus Park engagement

I met up with Donna and Philip in the early morning at the ICA, and then we headed to Christopher Columbus Park for the rest of this engagement session. They were so generous and brought along some muffins and juice for sustenance, as well a couple of wedding-related details for me to capture, including two of the many cranes Donna has been folding for the wedding decor and the engagement ring that Philip originally designed and casted for her. I think it’s so wonderful that their wedding will have a lot of handmade details because it shows just how much love they are pouring into their big day!

The weather ended up being perfect for us, with the hazy sky creating diffused lighting that really allowed Donna’s pink dress to pop. Donna and Philip really made this session so easy, and I have so many favorites! I am so, so excited to be photographing their wedding in just a few weeks at the Colonnade Hotel.

Vikki & Kyle | Brookline and Cambridge Engagement

Vikki and Kyle met at MIT and lived in Brookline together during their time in college, so it only made sense for them to choose to do their engagement session in parts of their old neighborhood and on the MIT campus in Cambridge. They currently live in New York and I’d only previously had contact with them over e-mail, so it was fun to finally meet them and walk around some of their favorite places with them. We were able to make get a great collection of images from the session, and this only makes me even more excited to shoot their wedding this fall at the MIT Chapel and the Museum of Science!

Emily & Simon | Boston Public Library Engagement

It’s rare that I shoot indoors for an engagement session because clients always want to reschedule when it rains, but I’m so glad Emily and Simon and I had to head inside for this one. It was my first time shooting in the Boston Public Library, and I’m already itching to go back–rain or shine! It’s SUCH a gorgeous backdrop for a session. Thankfully, the sky cleared for a bit and we were able to get some shots out in the courtyard too, and then we headed to the Fairmont Copley Hotel down the street at the end of the afternoon.

Emily and Simon’s relationship is just the perfect mix of sweetness and silliness, which made the session incredibly easy and fun. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding this July in New York. It will be my first time photographing a wedding outside of New England!

Marcia & Joshua | Esplanade engagement – Boston, MA

Not even a week after my last shoot on the Esplanade, I went back for Marcia and Joshua’s engagement session. I love shooting in familiar locations–it pushes you to see and shoot things a little differently. Plus, each couple is unique, and the light is always changing, so you really can get a variety of images across sessions.
